United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) has signaled an upcoming period of financial strain, forecasting a decline in both sales and available cash for investments during its fiscal third quarter. This information comes as the company has also refined its financial outlook for the entire fiscal year, according to Seeking Alpha. The wholesale distributor of natural and organic products now projects its net sales to fall within a range of $7.3 billion to $7.4 billion for the third fiscal quarter. This updated estimate represents a reduction from earlier expectations, pointing to a potentially more challenging market environment than previously assumed by the company. Simultaneously, the firm has also adjusted its forecast for free cash flow, anticipating a range of $80 million to $130 million for the quarter. This revised figure suggests that the company expects to generate less cash after accounting for operating expenses and capital expenditures, which could impact its flexibility for debt reduction or shareholder returns. Looking ahead to the full fiscal year 2024, United Natural Foods Inc. has narrowed its guidance for several key financial metrics. The company now expects net sales for the year to be between $30.5 billion and $31.0 billion. This adjustment reflects a more precise picture of anticipated revenue performance over the remainder of the fiscal period. Furthermore, the annual adjusted EBITDA, a measure of operational profitability, is now projected to fall within the range of $575 million to $650 million. This revised guidance offers a clearer financial target for investors and analysts to consider when evaluating the company's performance. In terms of earnings per share, UNFI has also updated its full-year outlook. The company now estimates its adjusted earnings per share to be between $1.00 and $1.50. These refined figures provide a more current view of the company's expected profitability on a per-share basis, taking into account recent operational insights and market conditions.
