Greek financial markets closed with a notable advance yesterday, as key indicators reflected widespread gains across various sectors. According to Investing.com, the Athens General Composite index, a primary benchmark for the nation's stock performance, appreciated by nearly one percent by the time trading concluded. Contributing to this upward momentum were several prominent companies that saw their share values rise. Among them, the Athens Water Supply and Drainage Company (EYDAP) recorded a substantial increase in its stock price, alongside major banking institutions such as Piraeus Bank SA and Alpha Bank. These financial entities, representing a significant portion of the Greek economy, played a crucial role in driving the overall market performance. The day’s trading saw other enterprises also achieving positive results. Thessaloniki Port Authority SA, a key player in the logistics and shipping sector, reported an uptick in its share value. Similarly, Lavipharm, a pharmaceutical company, and Attica Bank SA, another financial institution, also contributed to the market's constructive finish. Conversely, a minority of companies experienced a downturn in their stock values. Leading these decliners were enterprises like Techniki Olympiaki, a construction and real estate firm, and Quest Holdings, a diversified group with interests in IT and retail. Aegean Airlines SA, the country's largest airline, also saw a modest decrease in its share price, indicating some selective selling within an otherwise buoyant market. Trading volume was substantial, with approximately 32.89 million shares exchanged, translating to a considerable monetary value of roughly 83.18 million Euros. This active trading environment suggests robust investor engagement with Greek equities. The dynamic nature of the market was evident in the performance of 85 advancing stocks outnumbering 29 declining ones, with 12 remaining unchanged, underscoring the broad-based nature of the day's positive outcome.
