Poots and Reynolds Tapped for Amazon Adaptation of "Sex Criminals" Comic

Imogen Poots and John Reynolds are slated to portray the central characters in the forthcoming Amazon Prime Video series titled "Sex Criminals," according to Variety. The show draws its inspiration from the acclaimed comic book series of the same name and was initially greenlit with a commitment for eight episodes back in January. Poots is set to embody the character of Suze, described as an ordinary individual possessing a unique ability related to time. Reynolds will take on the role of Jon, who shares a similar, unusual faculty. The narrative of the series follows these two protagonists as their paths intersect, subsequently leading them to engage in bank robberies to cover operational expenses for a library. This unconventional premise is expected to provide a distinctive blend of humor and drama. You should know, the original comic book, penned by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Chip Zdarsky, garnered significant praise upon its release, earning an Eisner Award for Best New Series in 2014. Its narrative style is recognized for its candid exploration of relationships and self-discovery, intertwined with fantastical elements. The transition from the comic panel to a live-action series presents an exciting challenge for the creative team. Variety reports that the show's development has been underway for some time, with the initial announcement of an eight-episode order generating considerable anticipation among fans of the source material. The casting of Poots and Reynolds is a crucial step in bringing this quirky and beloved story to a new audience on the streaming platform. Both actors have a history of working in projects that blend comedy with more nuanced character studies, making them potentially well-suited for the roles of Suze and Jon. The series aims to capture the distinctive tone and charm that made the comic book a critical success. Viewers can anticipate a narrative that delves into themes of connection and aspiration, all within a framework that involves extraordinary circumstances and a touch of the absurd. The production is expected to commence soon, with further details about the release date and additional cast members likely to be announced over the coming months.
