Indian stock exchanges ended the trading period on a positive note, with key indices registering gains. The NSE Nifty 50, a primary benchmark for the country's equity market, experienced a rise of 0.71 percent by the close of the session, according to Investing.com. Contributing to this upward momentum were several sectors that saw significant advances. Among the strongest performers were IT (Information Technology) companies, firms focused on technology, and businesses in the metals industry. These sectors demonstrated robust performance, indicating investor confidence in their respective areas. Conversely, some segments of the market faced declines. The pharmaceutical sector, for instance, along with companies involved in personal care products, and those primarily engaged in oil, gas, and consumables, experienced a downturn. These areas struggled to maintain pace with the broader market's positive movement. Leading the individual stock performers on the Nifty 50 were Divani International, rising by approximately 6.5 percent, and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), which saw its shares increase by around 5.4 percent. Tata Steel Ltd also contributed significantly to the Nifty's gains, with its share price moving up by about 4.8 percent. However, some constituents of the Nifty 50 did not fare as well. Cipla Ltd reported a decrease of nearly 2.9 percent, while Hindustan Unilever Ltd saw its stock price dip by roughly 1.6 percent. Coal India Ltd also experienced a modest decline of about 1.5 percent. The broader market indicators also reflected a positive day overall. On the National Stock Exchange, approximately 1243 stocks advanced, outpacing the 737 that declined. Around 64 shares remained unchanged, indicating a clear preference for buying activity during the day's trading. Key underlying assets also saw varied movements. December gold futures moved up by 0.14 percent to reach $1968.10 per troy ounce, suggesting some safe-haven demand or inflationary expectations. Crude oil for December delivery, a crucial energy commodity, gained 0.58 percent, trading at $77.89 a barrel. The EUR/INR currency pair saw a slight decrease of 0.04 percent, reaching 89.26, while the USD/INR, a widely watched exchange rate, rose by 0.07 percent to 83.30.
