Lin Shaye Pushes for Return of Scrapped 'Insidious 6' to Sony's Film Slate

Lin Shaye, renowned for her role in the horror film series 'Insidious', has made headlines after the cancellation of a potential sixth film in the franchise. According to Variety, prior to the confirmation of the recently released film 'Insidious: Out of the Further', a sixth installment was under development at Sony. However, a significant change in the company's leadership led to the decision to scrap the film altogether, igniting frustration from Shaye. Upon learning of the film's abandonment, the actress did not hold back her feelings, reportedly stating, “Fuck this,” in response to the cancellation. Her passion for the project was clear as she took it upon herself to write directly to Tom Rothman, Sony’s CEO, pleading for the film to be given another chance. Shaye's heartfelt plea illustrates not only her commitment to the franchise but also highlights her desire to see her character continue to resonate with audiences. Shaye's involvement has been critical to the success of the 'Insidious' series, which has garnered a dedicated fan base since its debut. Her character, Elise Rainier, has become a fixture of the franchise, often at the center of its harrowing supernatural narratives. The actress’s initiative demonstrates her belief in the potential of 'Insidious 6' to further expand the series' legacy, despite the current setback. The change in management at Sony often comes with shifts in project priorities, and unfortunately, not all projects survive the transition. Despite the challenges, it remains to be seen if Shaye’s efforts to rally support around the scrapped film will influence future decisions within the studio. For now, fans will need to settle for 'Insidious: Out of the Further', which aims to deliver more chills and thrills to the series.
