Lucid Group, a manufacturer of luxury electric vehicles, recently disclosed its first-quarter financial results, indicating a more significant net loss than market analysts had predicted. The company's shares experienced a decline of approximately 6% following the announcement. According to Yahoo Finance, the net loss applicable to common stockholders reached $1.05 per share for the quarter ending March 31. This figure is notably wider than the $0.43 loss per share reported in the same period last year and falls short of the Refinitiv consensus estimate of a $0.39 loss per share. The electric vehicle producer generated $149.4 million in revenue during the quarter, a substantial increase from the $57.7 million recorded in the prior-year quarter. However, this revenue figure also did not meet an average analyst estimate of $209.95 million. Lucid reaffirmed its production target for the year, aiming to manufacture between 10,000 and 14,000 vehicles. This goal remains consistent despite the challenges faced in scaling production and navigating a competitive market. The company delivered 1,967 vehicles during the first quarter, a significant rise from the 360 vehicles delivered in the first quarter of last year. The company highlighted its increasing investment in expanding production capabilities and developing new models, including the Gravity SUV, which is expected to begin production in late 2024. These strategic initiatives are projected to lead to continued high levels of cash expenditure. Management indicated that operating expenses during the quarter were $988 million. The luxury automaker ended the quarter with $4.1 billion in total liquidity, which it believes is sufficient to fund its operations well into 2025. This liquidity includes $3.2 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and investments, alongside an undrawn revolving credit facility of $900 million. The company emphasized its commitment to managing its capital efficiently while pursuing its growth objectives in the electric vehicle sector.
