Principal photography has officially begun in Chile for "La Puta Vida," an upcoming international feature film. Colombian actor Claudio Cataño, widely recognized for his recent starring performance in the Netflix adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's acclaimed novel, "One Hundred Years of Solitude," leads the cast of this new production.
The project is a collaborative effort involving five different nations, reflecting a growing trend of cross-border cinematic partnerships. Variety reports that the film is being spearheaded by Colombia's Red Collision Studios and Afro Films from Chile. The directorial reins are held by Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Moreno, known for his previous work, "The City of Photographers" (2006) and "Opus" (2017).
"La Puta Vida" is characterized as a "road movie," a genre often focusing on characters undergoing personal journeys or transformations during a physical voyage. According to Variety, the narrative explores the intricate dynamics within a family whose members are compelled to travel a considerable distance to retrieve the remains of a deceased relative. This premise suggests a story rich with emotional depth and interpersonal conflict.
Moreno has indicated that the screenplay for "La Puta Vida" underwent development with financial backing from both the Chilean government's Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage and the Ibermedia Program, an initiative supporting co-productions in Ibero-American countries. This financial support highlights the cultural and artistic significance attributed to the project within the region.
The cast also includes prominent Chilean performers Paulina García and Alfredo Castro. García earned acclaim for her role in the 2013 film "Gloria," while Castro is known for his work in numerous Chilean productions, including "Tony Manero" and "The Club." Their involvement adds significant acting talent to the ensemble.
Cataño's participation follows his high-profile role in the "One Hundred Years of Solitude" series, which involved filming in Aracataca, the birthplace of Gabriel García Márquez, and other Colombian locations. This experience in a major international production likely prepares him for another demanding role in "La Puta Vida." The film's production in Chile further solidifies the country's position as a vibrant hub for Latin American cinema, attracting diverse projects and talent.
