The Saudi Arabian stock market concluded its trading session with a decline on Tuesday, as key indicators reflected a challenging day for investors. The Tadawul All Share Index, a primary benchmark for the Saudi exchange, recorded a drop of 0.52% by the end of trading, settling at 11,634.64 points.
Contributing to the overall market's downward trajectory were various sectors. The Building & Construction and Media & Publishing segments both saw reductions of 1.48% and 2.15% respectively, signaling weakness in these areas. Additionally, the Energy & Utilities sector also experienced a decline, falling by 0.77%.
Conversely, not all sectors faced losses. Some segments demonstrated resilience amidst the general market slump. The Multi Investment sector posted a gain of 1.07%, while the Food & Beverages industry improved by 0.61%. The Retail sector also managed a modest increase of 0.38%, according to Investing.com, indicating selective strength within the market.
Leading the advancements among individual stocks were Anaam International Holding Group, whose shares surged by 9.94% to 0.77. Middle East Paper Co. also performed strongly, climbing 8.04% to reach 45.60. Saudi Chemical Company gained 4.58%, closing at 35.40, marking it as another top performer on a day dominated by declines.
On the other side of the spectrum, Saudi Printing & Packaging Co. suffered the steepest fall, with its shares decreasing by 5.67% to 29.10. Tourism Enterprise Co. also saw a significant drop of 4.54%, closing at 10.10. United Wires Factories Co. shares finished lower by 4.29%, ending the session at 64.80, contributing to the broader market's negative results.
In terms of market breadth, declining issues outpaced those that advanced. A total of 177 stocks ended the day lower, while 67 managed to gain ground, and 24 remained unchanged. This imbalance underscores the pervasive negative mood that affected much of the Saudi equity market during Tuesday's trading.
