Lululemon Athletica Inc. announced a reduction in its net profit for the first fiscal quarter, a period concluding on May 5th. Despite this dip in earnings, the company did report an expansion in its revenue during the same timeframe, according to Yahoo Finance. Revenue for the first three months of the fiscal year reached $2.2 billion, marking a 10% increase when currency fluctuations are excluded. On a reported basis, the growth was 4% compared to the prior year. This revenue figure aligns with market expectations. However, the net income attributable to shareholders saw a decline, dropping to $321 million. This is a noticeable decrease from the $342 million recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Consequently, diluted earnings per share also fell to $2.54 from $2.68 year-over-year. The decline in profitability was influenced by several factors. The company incurred non-recurring costs totaling $29 million before taxes, linked to strategic restructuring initiatives. Additionally, there were increased charges related to impairments and onerous leases, amounting to $21 million before taxes, associated with its operations in Ivivva. Looking ahead, Lululemon has provided its outlook for the second fiscal quarter and the entirety of fiscal year 2024. For the second quarter, the company projects revenue to be in the range of $2.400 billion to $2.420 billion. Diluted earnings per share are anticipated to be between $2.92 and $3.02. For the full fiscal year 2024, Lululemon forecasts revenue to be between $10.700 billion and $10.800 billion. The expected diluted earnings per share for the year are set to be in the range of $14.27 to $14.47. This guidance suggests a continued focus on managing costs and optimizing operations amidst ongoing revenue growth.
