The London Indian Film Festival (LIFF) is preparing for its 17th annual event, promising an engaging lineup that includes prominent figures from Indian cinema and literature. Aamir Khan, the renowned Bollywood actor and director, is scheduled to participate in a discussion at BFI Southbank. This appearance, taking place on July 16, will serve as the concluding gala for this year's festival.
According to Variety, Khan's involvement is connected to a special screening marking the 25th anniversary of his critically acclaimed film, "Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India." This cinematic epic, recognized for its historical narrative set during the colonial era, received an Academy Award nomination. The festival itself will run from July 9 to July 19, extending its reach across several major UK cities, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, and Bradford.
Adding further depth to the festival's program, acclaimed writer and activist Arundhati Roy is also slated to appear. Roy, known for her Booker Prize-winning novel "The God of Small Things" and her incisive non-fiction work, will engage in a conversation at the British Library on July 14. Her discussion will explore themes pertinent to her recently launched book, which delves into critical global issues.
A significant highlight for fans of British-Asian comedy will be the reunion of the team behind "Goodness Gracious Me." The popular sketch show, which originally aired on the BBC, will be celebrated with its cast and creators gathering at the Soho Hotel on July 10. This event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the show's pioneering impact and enduring legacy in British television.
The 17th London Indian Film Festival aims to present a diverse cultural experience, showcasing a blend of cinema, literature, and television that reflects the rich tapestry of Indian and British-Asian artistic expression.
