Bank of America has announced the addition of Richard Hardegree to its leadership team as Vice Chairman of Mergers & Acquisitions. This appointment, disclosed through an internal communication, underscores the institution's commitment to strengthening its expertise in the dynamic technology industry. According to Investing.com, Hardegree's new role will see him focusing on technology sector transactions, bringing his extensive experience to one of the bank's crucial advisory areas. He will collaborate closely with Kevin Brunner and Gary Posternack, who co-head global M&A, and also with Jason Hughes, who leads technological advisory services. Hardegree's career trajectory includes a significant tenure at Citigroup, where he served for approximately two decades, culminating in his position as co-head of global technology investment banking. His departure from Citigroup in 2021 marked the end of a long and impactful period, during which he advised on numerous significant deals, including Citrix Systems' sale to Evergreen Coast Capital and Vista Equity Partners for $16.5 billion. Other notable transactions under his guidance include Proofpoint's $12.3 billion acquisition by Thoma Bravo and the $6.5 billion sale of SailPoint Technologies to Thoma Bravo. Following his time at Citigroup, Hardegree transitioned to an advisory role at private equity firm Motive Partners. His work there primarily involved consulting on financial technology investments, further broadening his expertise in strategic financial maneuvers within the tech sphere. Bank of America has been actively bolstering its M&A division in recent times. The inclusion of Hardegree follows several strategic personnel movements earlier in the year, such as the recruitment of veteran software banker Christian Wagner from Credit Suisse. These additions collectively indicate a concerted effort by the bank to enhance its presence and capabilities, particularly within the fast-evolving technology mergers and acquisitions landscape. Hardegree is expected to officially commence his duties in early September.
