Moscow’s stock exchange saw a modest dip at the close of trading, with the primary benchmark index registering a fractional loss. This decline was observed across a range of Russian companies, according to Investing.com. The MOEX Russia Index, a key indicator of market performance, concluded the session 0.22% lower, settling at 3,450.93. The broader RTS Index, which is dollar-denominated, also experienced a decrease, falling by 0.35% to reach 1,180.52. Sectoral performances were mixed throughout the day, indicating a varied response to underlying economic factors. Within the MOEX, some of the sub-indices showed greater volatility than others. The mining sector, for instance, witnessed a significant drop, alongside notable reductions for the oil and gas industry. Among the top performers on the MOEX Russia, Surgutneftegas Pref registered an increase of 2.37%, closing at 69.17. Additionally, Surgutneftegas ordinary shares saw a rise of 2.31%, reaching a price of 60.98. PJSC PhosAgro also contributed positively, climbing 2.22% to end the day at 3,222.00. Conversely, several companies faced losses. Leading the decliners within the MOEX was Aeroflot, which shed 3.01% to finish at 45.47. Sistema experienced a downturn of 2.10%, closing at 19.34, while United Company Rusal International PJSC saw its value decrease by 1.84%, settling at 47.93. Currency markets also reflected the day's trading dynamics. The Russian Ruble maintained a stable position against major international currencies. Against the US Dollar, it remained largely unchanged, with the exchange rate at 90.04. Similarly, the Ruble showed minimal alteration against the Euro, trading at 97.43, and against the Chinese Yuan, holding steady at 12.43. Investors are closely monitoring these market movements as they reflect on the broader economic outlook for Russia. The slight contraction in the indices suggests a cautious environment, although individual company performances highlight targeted optimism and challenges within specific industries.
