S&P Global Ratings recently revised its long-term issuer credit and issue ratings for Janus Henderson Group plc from 'BBB-' to 'BB'. This change, according to Investing.com, comes after the company completed its purchase of a boutique investment management entity. The outlook assigned to Janus Henderson's rating is stable. This stability is attributed to expectations that the company will successfully reduce its debt levels over the coming 12 to 18 months, leveraging its solid revenue generation capabilities. The credit rating agency's assessment highlights a weakening in Janus Henderson's financial risk profile. This deterioration primarily stems from the additional debt taken on to finance the recent acquisition. S&P Global Ratings noted specifically the higher debt-to-EBITDA ratio, which now stands at approximately 3.0x. Despite the downgrade, certain aspects of Janus Henderson's operational strength were acknowledged. The company maintains what S&P considers a "very strong" business risk profile. Factors contributing to this positive assessment include its diverse range of investment products, a substantial asset base under management, and strong market recognition in the global asset management sector. S&P also pointed to the potential for a future upgrade if Janus Henderson demonstrates a sustained reduction in its leverage. Conversely, a further downgrade could occur if the company's financial performance or asset flows significantly decline, leading to a prolonged increase in its debt-to-EBITDA ratio beyond current expectations. The stable outlook, however, suggests that such immediate drastic shifts are not anticipated.
