The cinematic production from Bangladesh, 'Roid', has successfully finalized distribution agreements for exhibition in Australia and New Zealand. This development, reported by Variety, will see the feature film released there through a partnership between Screenxcope and DeshiEvents. The plan is to launch the movie in theaters across both nations, with an anticipated premiere in early June. Filmmaker Jasim Ahmed, who wrote and directed the picture, also leads the cast alongside Tasnia Farin. Ahmed took home the Tiger Award for Best Short Film at Rotterdam in 2016 for 'A Pair of Blue Boots,' showcasing his previous success at the festival. 'Roid' first gained international attention as a selection for the prestigious Tiger Competition at the 55th International Film Festival Rotterdam. This prominent placement signals the film's artistic merit and its appeal to a global audience. Following its debut there, the movie was subsequently chosen to be part of the Seattle International Film Festival, further cementing its international recognition. The narrative of 'Roid' delves into the life of an individual grappling with a significant illness, leading to unexpected changes in their physical appearance and social interactions. The protagonist, a female bodybuilder, faces intense scrutiny and judgment from her neighbors and community as a side effect of her medication. Her condition results in the growth of facial hair and a perceived masculinization of her physique, which creates a rift between her and her spouse, deeply affecting their relationship. This dramatic exploration of societal norms, personal identity, and the challenges of a critical medical condition highlights the film's poignant storytelling. The collaboration between Screenxcope and DeshiEvents aims to ensure that audiences in Australia and New Zealand have the opportunity to experience this compelling work. The early June release window is set to introduce this significant Bangladeshi production to a new set of viewers.
