Palantir Technologies, the data analytics software firm, announced its first-quarter financial figures, revealing stronger-than-anticipated results. The company’s revenue and adjusted earnings per share surpassed projections, yet its stock price saw a decrease following the announcement, according to Yahoo Finance.
For the initial three months of the year, Palantir reported an adjusted profit of 8 cents per share, which exceeded the 7 cents per share anticipated by analysts. Total revenue reached $634 million, also surpassing the $617 million consensus estimate. This represents a significant 21% increase from the same period last year, indicating healthy operational growth.
A key driver of this performance was Palantir's commercial sector, which witnessed substantial expansion. Commercial revenue grew by 40% year-over-year, reaching $275 million. The United States commercial revenue demonstrated even more impressive growth, soaring by 70% to $150 million. The company noted a notable increase in its U.S. commercial customer count, adding 19 new clients during the quarter, bringing the total to 262.
Conversely, government revenue saw a more modest increase of 7% year-over-year, totaling $359 million. This segment’s growth was driven primarily by an increase in U.S. government engagements, which rose by 12% to $257 million.
Looking ahead, Palantir has issued an encouraging forecast for the second quarter and the full fiscal year. For the second quarter, the company anticipates revenue to fall between $649 million and $653 million, with adjusted operating income projected to be between $157 million and $161 million. The full-year revenue outlook has been raised to a range of $2.68 billion to $2.69 billion, an increase from the previously stated $2.65 billion to $2.67 billion. The firm also adjusted its full-year adjusted operating income guidance upwards, now expecting it to be between $834 million and $850 million, up from $813 million to $827 million.
Despite these positive financial indicators and an optimistic future outlook, the market reacted by sending Palantir’s stock lower. This reaction might be attributed to various market dynamics or investor sentiment following a period of significant stock appreciation earlier in the year.
