Glenfarne Energy Transition, a key player in infrastructure development, has entered into a heads of agreement with BGN, a global commodities trading firm. This preliminary accord outlines the future supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) originating from Glenfarne's Texas LNG export initiative, situated in the southern part of the state.
The agreement, as reported by Yahoo Finance, details the potential for BGN to receive up to 500,000 tonnes of LNG annually from the Texas LNG facility. This supply would be managed on a free-on-board (FOB) basis, indicating that BGN would assume responsibility for the cargo once it's loaded onto the transport vessel.
Texas LNG is actively pursuing the finalization of long-term natural gas supply contracts and is engaged in discussions for additional off-take agreements. The facility is poised to commence construction later in the current year, with an anticipated operational start in 2027. The project aims for a total export capacity of 4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG.
Leveraging its strategic location along the Brownsville Ship Channel, Texas LNG is well-positioned for international exports. The facility is designed to utilize electric compression, powered by renewable energy sources, which underscores a commitment to reduced emissions in its operations. This approach positions Texas LNG as a developer of lower-carbon intensity LNG.
Brendan Fitzgerald, Senior Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer for Glenfarne, expressed that the collaboration with BGN marks a crucial milestone for the Texas LNG venture. He highlighted BGN's global presence in commodity trading as a significant asset for the project.
BGN's Global Head of LNG, Rubana Shaheen, also commented on the agreement. Shaheen noted the growing demand for LNG globally and expressed enthusiasm for BGN's participation in the Texas LNG project, emphasizing the importance of securing future energy supplies.
