No Doubt Bassist Discusses Las Vegas Sphere Shows, Touring Hiatus, and Future Music

Tony Kanal, the bassist for the iconic band No Doubt, shared insights into the group's current activities, including their ongoing residency at the Las Vegas Sphere. According to Variety, Kanal described a deeply moving moment during soundcheck prior to their first performance at the innovative venue, admitting to shedding tears. No Doubt is scheduled to perform eighteen concerts at the Sphere, with their engagement concluding at the end of May. The band's decision to undertake this residency marks a significant return to the stage for the group, known for hits like "Don't Speak" and "Just a Girl." Kanal also touched upon the reasons behind the band's extended absence from touring. He explained that a major factor contributing to their hiatus was the desire to prioritize family life. Many members of No Doubt have young children, and the demands of prolonged tours would have significantly impacted their ability to be present for their families. He emphasized the importance of being there for significant milestones in their children's lives, something that regular touring would have made difficult. When questioned about the possibility of new music from No Doubt, Kanal indicated that while there is a strong desire within the band to create new material, the timing has not yet been right. He noted that the creative process requires a dedicated period of time and focus, which has been challenging to find amidst their individual commitments and family lives. Despite this, he expressed optimism about future songwriting endeavors. The Las Vegas Sphere residency offers a unique opportunity for the band to perform for their fans in a concentrated series of shows without the extensive travel and time commitment associated with a full tour. This format allows the musicians to balance their professional commitments with their personal lives more effectively. The high-tech nature of the Sphere venue also provides an immersive experience for concert-goers, differentiating it from traditional concert settings. The band's initial performances have been met with enthusiasm, signaling a successful return to live performances for the beloved group.
