An estate with a notable past, previously a home to Princess Margaret, the late sister of Queen Elizabeth II, is now available for purchase. The property, known as The Old House, carries an asking price of $5.29 million, according to The Wall Street Journal. This historic residence is situated roughly 40 miles from the heart of London. Princess Margaret resided in the estate for two years during a tumultuous period of her adult life. The Wall Street Journal reports that the house gained a reputation as a venue for lively social gatherings during her occupancy. It was also at this location that the challenges within her marriage to photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones, also known as Lord Snowdon, reportedly became pronounced, eventually leading to their separation. The princess acquired the 3.8-acre estate in 1966. Its architectural roots trace back to the 17th century, though it underwent subsequent expansions in the 18th and 19th centuries. Prior to its purchase by Princess Margaret, the property belonged to Armstrong-Jones and his previous spouse, who had renovated the structure. Margaret subsequently commissioned an interior decorator to undertake further redesigns of the home's living spaces. Following her departure in 1968, Margaret relocated to Kensington Palace, her long-standing official residence in London. The Old House then entered the ownership of a series of private individuals. The current vendors, who acquired the property in 2004, are now seeking a buyer. Records indicate the house was last sold for £2.8 million in 2007. Spanning more than 5,000 square feet, the main residence boasts seven bedrooms, four bathrooms, and three reception rooms. The grounds also feature a separate cottage that includes three additional bedrooms. The listing highlights a variety of amenities, such as a swimming pool, a tennis court, and an orchard, enhancing its appeal as a substantial countryside dwelling with unique historical ties.
