Telephone & Data Systems, Inc. (TDS) recently disclosed its financial outcomes for the initial quarter of 2026. The telecommunications firm reported a decrease in overall operating revenues compared to the same period in the prior year, alongside a notable expansion in its fixed broadband subscriber count. This information comes from a recent report by Yahoo Finance. For the first three months ending March 31, 2026, TDS recorded consolidated operating revenues of $1.28 billion. This figure represents a reduction from the $1.32 billion generated in the first quarter of 2025. The company’s net income attributable to common shareholders stood at a loss of $10 million, or negative $0.09 per share, a downturn from the $15 million, or $0.13 per share, profit observed in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Despite the decline in overall revenue and profitability, TDS’s subsidiary, TDS Telecom, showed positive movement in its fixed broadband segment. TDS Telecom added approximately 4,000 new fixed broadband customers during the quarter. The total broadband service connections reached 1.05 million. The average revenue per user (ARPU) for residential operations at TDS Telecom saw an increase, reaching $62.61, up from $60.62 in the first quarter of 2025. In the wireless sector, UScellular, another TDS subsidiary, experienced a net loss of approximately 3,000 postpaid connections. The average postpaid churn rate for UScellular was reported at 1.15%. Total operating revenues for UScellular amounted to $999 million, a slight decrease from the $1.02 billion reported in the first quarter of the previous year. The capital expenditures for TDS during the first quarter were approximately $297 million. Looking ahead, TDS has reaffirmed its financial guidance for the full year 2026. The company anticipates consolidated operating revenues to be in the range of $5.0 billion to $5.2 billion. Adjusted EBITDA is projected to be between $900 million and $1.0 billion. Investors and analysts will be watching closely to see how TDS navigates the competitive telecommunications landscape and whether its focus on broadband expansion can offset challenges in other areas of its business. The company’s continued investment in network infrastructure, particularly for fiber deployment, is expected to be a key factor in its future performance.
