The Russian stock market saw a challenging close to its trading session today, with several key sectors experiencing declines. Although numerous stocks ended the day lower, the overarching MOEX Russia Index demonstrated resilience, ultimately finishing the session relatively unchanged.
According to Investing.com, the subdued performance was evident across major industry groups. The mining, manufacturing, and oil & gas sectors were particularly affected, contributing to the overall negative sentiment among investors as the market closed. This trend indicates a selective downturn rather than a widespread market collapse, given the MOEX Russia Index's stable conclusion.
Among the top performers, AK Transneft OAO Pref (TRNF_p), the pipeline transport company, notably gained 1.08%, settling at 154,600.00. Pharmacy Chain 36.6 (APTK) also saw a positive movement, increasing by 0.94% to reach 8.57, while NMTP (NCSP) shares edged up by 0.77%, closing at 9.17.
Conversely, several companies faced headwinds. Rosseti Lenenergo Pao (LSNGP) experienced the most significant drop, shedding 2.05% to finish at 15.30. Mechel PAO (MTLR) shares decreased by 1.70%, ending the day at 235.32, and Polymetal International PLC (POLY) also dipped by 1.63%, closing at 349.50.
The volume of trading activity saw 1.08 billion shares changing hands on the Moscow Exchange. This figure represents a decrease from the 1.48 billion recorded in the previous session, suggesting a slight reduction in market participation. The value of these trades amounted to 40.52 billion rubles.
From a technical perspective, the number of declining stocks surpassed those that advanced, with 137 issues falling compared to 73 gaining ground. Additionally, 17 stocks remained stable throughout the session, reflecting a market where bearish sentiment held a slight edge over bullish activity during this trading period.
