Leonardo, a leading European defense and aerospace corporation, announced robust financial outcomes for the initial quarter of the current fiscal year. The company experienced a notable surge in new orders and overall revenue, figures that, according to The Wall Street Journal, align with analysts' predictions.
The firm secured new orders totaling €6.1 billion during the first three months, marking an impressive 57% increase compared to the same period last year. This considerable growth has elevated the company's order backlog to €41.8 billion, providing a solid foundation for future operations. Management indicated that this backlog represents approximately two and a half years of guaranteed production.
Revenue also saw a healthy rise, reaching €3.7 billion, an 8% improvement year-over-year. This expansion in both orders and revenue is partly attributed to heightened defense expenditures across various European nations. Governments are reportedly increasing their defense budgets in response to evolving geopolitical landscapes.
Looking ahead, Leonardo maintains an optimistic outlook for the full year. The aerospace and defense conglomerate anticipates new orders to reach approximately €25 billion by year-end. Additionally, the company projects its full-year revenue to be in the range of €15 billion to €15.7 billion. Earnings before interest, taxes, and amortization (EBITA) are expected to be between €1.21 billion and €1.26 billion, while free operating cash flow is forecast to be around €600 million.
Despite the positive financial reports, Leonardo's shares experienced a slight dip of 0.8% in early trading in Milan on Wednesday. However, this minor fluctuation comes after a significant 35% increase in share value since the beginning of the year, demonstrating strong investor confidence over the longer term. The company's performance underscores the current dynamism within the global defense sector.
