A Delta Airlines aircraft experienced an unusual incident during its descent into Chicago’s O'Hare International Airport on Sunday evening when it was hit by a firework. The flight, originating from Akron-Canton Airport in Ohio, was carrying 52 passengers and six crew members at the time of the impact. According to BBC World, the crew immediately notified air traffic controllers about the occurrence. Air traffic control subsequently alerted other aircraft in the vicinity to exercise caution, advising them of potential fireworks activity near the airport. The aircraft, a Boeing 717, landed safely without further incident. Initial assessments conducted by maintenance teams revealed that a single char mark, approximately six inches in diameter, was visible on the plane’s fuselage. Further inspection indicated that the impact did not compromise the integrity of the aircraft’s exterior. Passengers on board described hearing a significant noise. One individual recounted experiencing a substantial jolt, likening it to a powerful impact. Despite the startling event, all occupants of the plane were unharmed, and no medical attention was required. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been informed of the incident. While fireworks are prohibited within a certain radius of airports due to potential hazards to aviation, such occurrences are rare. Authorities are now investigating the source of the firework and how it came to be in the flight path of a commercial airliner. The quick response from the flight crew and air traffic control ensured a safe conclusion to what could have been a more serious situation for the travelers and staff aboard the Delta flight.
