Asus to Offer OLED Xbox Handheld Separately After Initial Bundling Plans

Asus is adjusting its retail approach for an upcoming gaming device featuring an OLED screen, which incorporates Xbox functionalities. The company initially planned to bundle this new handheld console with expensive augmented reality glasses, a strategy that could have limited its market reach and appeal. However, reports from The Verge indicate that Asus will now make the device accessible on its own. This shift comes as a positive development for consumers interested in the portable gaming experience without the added cost of AR accessories. The Verge previously expressed reservations about the original sales model, noting that the bundle might have dampened enthusiasm for the innovative handheld. The decision to offer the OLED device independently suggests a response to market feedback or an internal reassessment of its commercial viability. The specific model, referred to as the OLED Xbox Ally X20, promises an enhanced visual experience compared to its predecessors, thanks to the display technology. Handheld gaming systems have seen a resurgence in popularity, with several manufacturers vying for market share. Asus's move to sell the unit individually could significantly improve its competitiveness and attract a wider audience looking for a premium portable gaming option. Details about the device's full specifications, pricing for the standalone unit, and its official release date are still anticipated. However, the confirmed availability as a separate purchase is expected to generate considerable interest among tech enthusiasts and gamers. This strategic adjustment by Asus aims to capitalize on the growing demand for high-quality mobile gaming hardware.
