Dole Food Company has announced a considerable expansion of its operations across the Nordic countries, following a definitive agreement to acquire the fresh produce businesses of Greenfood. This strategic purchase, as reported by Seeking Alpha, will integrate Greenfood’s substantial presence in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway into Dole’s existing European network. The acquisition encompasses a diverse portfolio of operations owned by Greenfood. These include Picadeli, a well-known salad bar concept, and several brands specializing in fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, such as Daily Greens. Additionally, the deal includes Greenfood’s extensive network of wholesale distribution centers, furthering Dole’s reach into the supply chain for fresh produce in the region. Johan Linden, President and CEO of Dole, emphasized the importance of this transaction, stating that it represents a key step in strengthening the company’s footprint in the Nordic market. He highlighted how the integration of Greenfood’s businesses would enhance Dole's ability to serve customers and consumers with a broader range of products and services. Specific financial terms of the agreement have not been publicly disclosed by either company. The completion of the acquisition is contingent upon receiving necessary regulatory approvals from the relevant authorities. Both parties anticipate that the transaction will conclude in the third quarter of 2020. This move by Dole is indicative of a broader trend within the food industry, where major players are seeking to consolidate and expand their market share through strategic acquisitions. By incorporating Greenfood’s well-established brands and distribution channels, Dole aims to capitalize on the growing demand for fresh and convenient food options in Northern Europe. The combined entity is expected to bring efficiencies and innovation to the fresh produce sector, benefiting both consumers and stakeholders.
