Production has officially begun on an anticipated new drama series, "Hamburg Days," which delves into the crucial early period of The Beatles' career during their time in Hamburg, Germany. The six-part television event is currently being filmed in various locations, including Hamburg itself, Munich, and Liverpool, according to Variety. Variety reports that the cast portraying the iconic musicians has been announced. Rhys Mannion, known for his roles in "It Is in Us All" and "Freud's Last Session," will take on the part of John Lennon. The role of Paul McCartney will be filled by Liverpudlian singer-songwriter Ellis Murphy. New talent Harvey Seager is set to play George Harrison, while Louis McCartney will portray Ringo Starr. Additionally, the series has cast other pivotal figures from that era. Curtis Johnson will appear as Pete Best, the band's drummer before Ringo Starr. Emma McDonald, recognized for her work in "Moonflower" and "The Picture of Dorian Gray," has been cast as Astrid Kirchherr, a significant photographer and artist who was influential in shaping the band's image and was romantically involved with Stuart Sutcliffe. Millie Gibson, from "Doctor Who" and "Coronation Street," will play Cilla Black, the renowned singer and television presenter who was a contemporary and friend of The Beatles. The narrative will focus on the band's intense and pivotal residency in Hamburg, a period that significantly honed their musical skills and stage presence. It was during these years, between 1960 and 1962, that the group performed extensively in various clubs, often playing for long hours, which contributed to their development as a live act. This era also saw the group forge strong bonds and experience many of the challenges and triumphs that would define their nascent career. The series aims to capture the raw energy and transformative experiences of the future global sensations before they achieved widespread fame. Fans and critics alike will be keenly watching to see how this dramatic interpretation brings to life one of the most vital, yet often less explored, chapters in the history of popular music.
