During its first-quarter earnings call, Gaia, Inc., a digital content provider, announced a decline in its subscriber base despite an increase in the average revenue generated per subscriber. According to a report from Yahoo Finance, the company recorded a net loss of $2.2 million for the quarter, or eight cents per share. This figure represents a slight improvement from the $2.3 million net loss, or nine cents per share, reported in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Gaia’s total revenue for the quarter reached $19.7 million, marking a 3% increase when compared to the prior year. The firm also achieved an adjusted operating margin of 10%, indicating a healthy operational efficiency. Despite these positive financial indicators, the subscriber count decreased by 6,000, bringing the total to 776,000.
Management highlighted efforts to reduce promotional discounts and focus on retaining high-value subscribers as a reason for both the dip in subscribers and the climb in average revenue per user. The average monthly revenue per member increased by 4% to $10.05. Gaia also noted a significant drop in its churn rate by 34 basis points, falling to 6.6%.
Looking ahead, Gaia anticipates its full-year revenue to fall between $79 million and $80 million. The company expects net income to be in the range of $0.6 million to $1 million, with an adjusted operating margin projected to be between 8% and 9%. These projections signal a cautious but optimistic outlook for the remainder of the fiscal year.
The content subscription service remains focused on enhancing its offerings and optimizing its subscriber acquisition strategies. The balance between expanding its user base and maximizing the value from existing subscribers appears to be a key focus for Gaia moving forward, as it navigates a competitive digital media landscape.
