The Alliance of Women Directors (AWD) has announced the distinguished group of industry professionals who will serve as mentors for its upcoming fellowship program. This year's roster features notable filmmakers such as Zach Cregger, known for his work in the horror genre; Issa López, an acclaimed Mexican writer-director; and independent film stalwart Jay Duplass. Adding a new dimension to the program, the AWD fellowship has, for the first time, brought on board a selection of producing mentors. This expansion aims to provide fellows with a more comprehensive understanding of film and television production from various perspectives, The Hollywood Reporter indicates. The newly appointed producing mentors include Barbara Muschietti, producer of major studio films; Emily V. Gordon, an Oscar-nominated writer and producer; and Win Rosenfeld, a prolific producer in both film and television. Further strengthening the mentorship team are Andrea Sperling, a veteran independent film producer; Julia Hammer, a producer with a diverse portfolio; and Tony Yang, an executive known for his strategic insights in production. This diverse group of mentors is set to offer invaluable guidance and support to emerging women directors, helping them navigate the complexities of the entertainment industry. The AWD fellowship is designed to foster the careers of talented women directors, providing them with opportunities for professional development, networking, and direct access to experienced industry professionals. Participants gain insights into various aspects of filmmaking, from creative direction to the logistical and business challenges of bringing projects to fruition. The inclusion of producing mentors signifies a strategic enhancement to the fellowship, acknowledging the critical role producers play in shaping cinematic and television projects. By connecting aspiring directors with both creative and production-side veterans, AWD aims to equip its fellows with a holistic understanding of the industry ecosystem. This initiative underscores AWD's ongoing commitment to promoting gender equity and empowering women in directorial roles across Hollywood and beyond.
