The Mexican stock market finished its trading day in negative territory, reflecting a broader trend observed across several key sectors. The primary benchmark, the S&P/BMV IPC, recorded a reduction of 0.37% by the end of the session, according to Investing.com.
Several sectors contributed to this overall decline. Companies in the financial services sector, those involved in raw materials, and industrial entities all saw their share values decrease. Conversely, businesses within the consumer staples, healthcare, and telecommunications sectors managed to post gains, providing some counterbalance to the downward pressure.
Among the individual stocks, significant movers on the S&P/BMV IPC included Genomma Lab Internacional SA B, which saw its share price fall by 5.37%. Another notable drop was observed in the shares of Grupo Carso SA de CV, which declined by 3.86%. Cemex SAB de CV Units also experienced a decrease of 2.87%.
On the positive side, shares of Wal-Mart de Mexico SAB de CV saw an increase of 1.45%. Regional bank Banorte gained 1.41%, and the telecommunications giant America Movil SAB de CV Series L rose by 1.13%.
The overall market sentiment also saw some breadth of movement among all listed securities. Out of 172 stocks, 78 advanced, while 80 declined, and 14 remained unchanged. This indicates a relatively even split between rising and falling stocks despite the overall index decrease.
Futures for gold saw a modest increase of 0.30%, reaching $2,336.50 per troy ounce. Crude oil futures also climbed, with West Texas Intermediate crude for July delivery advancing by 0.28% to $78.68 a barrel. Meanwhile, the Euro strengthened against the US Dollar, gaining 0.27%, with the currency pair trading at 1.07 USD. The Mexican Peso also improved its position against the US Dollar, showing an increase of 0.04%.
