Colombian filmmaker Federico Durán has unveiled his new production company, El Sol Ermitaño, during the San Sebastián Film Festival. Durán, who is also a shareholder in Rhayuela Films, is making his mark in the industry with this new venture, which aims to produce and promote distinctive Latin American films.
The company’s inaugural project, titled "Lovers Go Home!", is currently featured in the festival’s Work in Progress (WIP) LatAm program. This initiative is designed to support films from Latin America that are still in the development stages, allowing filmmakers to gain visibility and potential support from industry professionals and audiences alike.
Directed by Juan Sebastián Mesa, known for his work on "The Nobodies", "Lovers Go Home!" showcases a unique narrative that reflects contemporary themes relevant to Latin America. As part of the WIP program, the film will be presented to a select group of industry insiders, who will have the opportunity to offer feedback and insights that may guide the final stages of production.
The San Sebastián Film Festival is a pivotal platform for filmmakers and production companies, particularly those hailing from Latin America, providing crucial exposure and networking opportunities. With El Sol Ermitaño's launch, Durán is poised to contribute significantly to the cinematic landscape in the region through impactful storytelling and innovative projects.
Durán’s history with Rhayuela Films lends him extensive experience and resources as he embarks on this new chapter. The festival presentation aims not only to highlight his latest film but also to establish El Sol Ermitaño as a rising entity in the competitive film production arena.
