MSI has introduced its newest portable gaming console, the Claw 8 EX AI+, which incorporates advanced artificial intelligence features. The device boasts substantial enhancements over previous iterations, promising a powerful experience for users. However, these improvements are accompanied by a considerable cost.
According to Wired, the new MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ aims to elevate handheld gaming with its updated specifications and AI integration. The previous model, the Claw 7, was known for a less-than-stellar battery performance, a critical aspect for mobile devices. The latest version addresses this by featuring a larger 80Wh battery, a significant boost intended to provide extended playtime.
Under the hood, the Claw 8 EX AI+ is powered by Intel's Core Ultra 200 series processors, which are specifically designed to include a neural processing unit (NPU). This NPU is dedicated to handling artificial intelligence workloads, suggesting the device will leverage AI for performance optimization, enhanced graphics, or other intelligent features. The display has also seen an upgrade, now a more expansive 8-inch screen, providing a larger visual area for gaming.
Other notable improvements include the addition of an extra USB-C port, bringing the total to two, and a redesigned power adapter. These subtle but meaningful changes enhance connectivity and potentially improve the charging experience for users. Furthermore, the joysticks on the device are now equipped with hall-effect sensors, which are known for their precision and durability, offering a more responsive and long-lasting control mechanism.
Despite these advancements, the pricing strategy for the Claw 8 EX AI+ is a key consideration. Wired noted the high price point, suggesting that while the device offers considerable power and new features, its cost might be a significant factor for potential buyers in the competitive handheld gaming market. The balance between cutting-edge technology and affordability remains a crucial challenge for manufacturers in this segment.
