The latest animated installment from a popular franchise has once again claimed the top position at the South Korean box office. During the period of July 3-5, the film successfully fended off a new suspense thriller, holding onto its lead for the weekend. According to Variety, the animated movie garnered approximately $2.8 million in revenue. This sum was accumulated from 429,042 ticket sales over the three-day weekend, solidifying its significant market share against competitors. Its impressive performance accounted for 38.6% of the total box office earnings for that weekend. This outcome underscores the animated film's continued appeal to audiences and its robust presence in the theatrical market. In a closely contested race, the thriller titled 'The Eyes' opened impressively, securing the second spot. This film captivated 408,092 cinemagoers and generated $2.7 million in its debut weekend. Its strong entry suggests a rising interest in local genre films among the South Korean audience. The difference in earnings between the two leading movies was a narrow $100,000, signaling a competitive weekend for film distributors. Despite the minimal gap, the animated feature managed to retain its top ranking. The overall box office for the weekend saw a slight downturn, with total revenues dipping to $7.2 million from the previous weekend's $7.9 million. This minor decline reflects typical fluctuations in cinema attendance. Another animated feature, 'Minions 3', held onto the third position, adding $525,000 to its cumulative earnings. Its continued presence in the top ranks indicates the enduring popularity of animated content. Rounding out the top five, a romantic drama secured fourth place, with a horror film following closely in fifth. These placements highlight the diverse cinematic tastes of the South Korean movie-going public.
