Apollo Global Management has decided against proceeding with its offer to purchase Bodycote, a prominent UK-based enterprise, according to Seeking Alpha. This announcement, made public on Monday, follows a period of consideration regarding a potential acquisition of the heat treatment and thermal processing services provider.
The initial overture from Apollo had valued Bodycote at approximately £1.7 billion, which translates to roughly $2.1 billion. However, the American private equity giant has now stated its intention to no longer pursue this transaction, leaving the British company to continue its operations independently.
Following the revelation of Apollo's withdrawal, Bodycote’s stock experienced a notable decline in value. Shares in the firm fell by around 10% during early trading hours in London, reflecting investor reaction to the dissipated acquisition prospects. The proposed deal had offered Bodycote shareholders 664 pence per share.
The initial approach from Apollo became public in late April, at which point Bodycote confirmed that it had received an unsolicited, preliminary, and conditional proposal. Bodycote, headquartered in Macclesfield, England, operates a global network of facilities, providing essential services to various industrial sectors, including aerospace, automotive, and energy.
This development underscores the dynamic nature of corporate mergers and acquisitions, where initial interest does not always culminate in a finalized agreement. For Bodycote, the immediate impact is a recalibration of its market valuation as the prospect of a takeover premium fades from investor expectations. The company is now poised to continue executing its strategic plans as an independent entity, focusing on its core business activities in heat treatment and specialized thermal processing.
