Russian stock performance saw a decline by the conclusion of the trading period on Thursday. The key MOEX Russia Index, a benchmark for the nation's equities, registered little to no movement, reflecting a generally subdued market. This lack of significant change in the primary index occurred despite a downward trend in individual stock values.
Contributing to the market's decline were several sectors, particularly those focused on mining, manufacturing, and transportation. These areas experienced notable reductions in share prices, influencing the overall negative close. According to Investing.com, a variety of prominent companies saw their stock values decrease, contributing to the broader market's weak showing.
Among the companies registering losses, United Company Rusal Plc (MCX: RUAL) saw its shares fall by 0.69 points, or 1.57%, closing at 43.19. PIK (MCX: PIKK) also experienced a dip, decreasing by 0.96% or 8.40 points, to settle at 868.00. Similarly, the shares of Polymetal International PLC (MCX: POLY) lost 0.72 points, a 1.25% reduction, finishing the day at 566.20.
Conversely, some firms managed to defy the negative trend and recorded gains. X5 Retail Group (MCX: FIVE) saw its stock price rise by 0.40%, adding 8.00 points to close at 1,989.50. TCS Group Holding PLC (MCX: TCSG) also showed an increase, climbing 0.79% or 23.40 points, ending at 2,977.00. Pharmacy Chain 36.6 (MCX: APTK) shares advanced by 0.98%, moving up 0.015 points to reach 1.555.
The volume of trading on the Moscow Exchange (MOEX) was moderate, with 946 issues declining and 100 remaining unchanged. Only 127 issues saw their prices increase, indicating a clear bearish sentiment dominating the market. The relatively low trading volume suggests a hesitant approach from investors, with many refraining from large-scale actions.
Futures for Brent oil, an important commodity for the Russian economy, saw a gain of 0.44%, trading at $87.49 a barrel. Gold futures also moved upwards, increasing by 0.61% to $2,389.70 an ounce. In currency markets, the EUR/RUB pair declined by 0.05%, while the USD/RUB pair increased by 0.17%, and the EUR/USD pair saw a modest rise of 0.01%. These commodity and currency movements reflect broader global economic factors and their indirect influence on the Russian equity market.
